Our Story
Thank you for your interest in The Maplegrove Inn! We would like to introduce ourselves as the proud new owners of this old country farmhouse, built in 1854.
We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
As “Come from Awayers”, we are new to both New Brunswick and Canada itself. Mel grew up in South Africa and Kate is a lifelong Hoosier from Indiana. Mel had never been to Canada, whereas Kate had enjoyed several memorable trips to Alberta and Ontario while hiking and canoeing.
Our family made the journey to New Brunswick in August 2021 including our 3 adult children and 3 dogs. We have only begun to explore the many treasures within Albert County and its surrounding areas, such as The Hopewell Rocks, Fundy National Park, Cape Enrage and Mary’s Point. We look forward to sharing new adventures with you.
Prior to becoming innkeepers we both worked in the field of occupational therapy. Mel worked primarily with Seniors and Kate focused on children with a variety of sensory processing challenges. Although we found our careers rewarding, we both wanted a change of pace and lifestyle. Mel is an avid home cook and aspiring gardener and Kate is an outdoor enthusiast and amateur photographer.
Mid-pandemic we felt prompted to pursue a different path for our family and we’re so delighted that it led us here! We are thrilled to be part of Albert County which is filled with talented people whose products we will be featuring at our inn. As much as possible we source local ingredients for our homemade breakfasts and Mel is hoping to provide fresh herbs, fruit and veggies from our own garden.
